The Skinny
$14.00 /hour for 10 hours (2 x 5-hour days) or more each week at the creamery in Barnard, VT. Position may grow or morph into other dimensions over time.

About You
If you enjoy cooking and you LOVE ice cream then this may what you’re looking for. If preparing good food for people and being a part of the local food movement are important to you then the stars are lining up and this may be the place for you!

What You’ll Do
Your mission is to make earthlings happy by making the tastiest, smoothest ice cream in the galaxy. You will be using organic milk and cream from our own cows, as well as other organic and natural ingredients; many sourced locally.

Tasks include:
  • Separating fresh, warm milk into cream and skim milk
  • Mixing in the ingredients
  • Pasteurizing the (raw) milk, cream and other ingredients
  • Making the ice cream and putting into boxes (for scooping) or pints (for retail)
  • Making mix-ins, such as brownies and fruit compote
  • Labeling & packaging
  • Cleaning the equipment, utensils, and space; putting things away
  • Recording information about each batch
  • Following a food safety plan and state regulations regarding (dairy) food preparation

Depending on interest and farm needs other activities could include milking cows, scooping at events or farmers’ markets, or making other dairy products, such as cheese or butter.

Skills You’ll Need
As an intergalactic being, you should possess a positive-can-do attitude, be self-motivated, hard-working, curious, and a good communicator. If you have the courage to try things and you smile at bad jokes in spite of yourself, then you will probably fit in.

Our standards are high and necessarily so as we are entrusting you to prepare food products for safe human consumption. Please consider this commitment before applying.

You should be able to work on your own with minimal direction once you have been taught how to do a task. We do not expect you to know everything or be perfect. We do expect you to be willing to learn and to work honestly and conscientiously.

You must have high attention to detail and commitment to quality so we can achieve the results we need for our customers. A lot of trust and responsibility is given to the Creamery Alchemist and it is critical that the processes are followed exactly. You should have a very detail oriented and focused working style and be comfortable taking full responsibility for your tasks.

While we take our ice cream making very seriously, it’s also important that everyone maintains a positive attitude and has fun. Listening to music, dancing and joking around are just as much a part of our day to day.

Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and be able to work with allergens i.e. eggs, milk, nuts, etc. A high school diploma is required.
